Finding the clues

Spending hours in the practice room can often feel like a solitary sport…

But music is a collaborative game, rather than an art form that you do alone…

There is always you and the composer…

And the composer always gives you clues on how to perform their piece…

You might not be able to see them initially…

But if you work at looking at the map, the clues on how to play the music all become clear…

The secret is in becoming a good map reader. Focusing on what the map is really telling you. Directly or indirectly. But focus is key…..

So put away your phone, switch off your computer, turn away from your distractions and really look at the map…

By doing so, not only will you be truly collaborating with the composer, you will also be giving yourself the platform to perform to the best of your ability…
